What Are Your Candles and Wicks Made Of?
We get this question often—and we love that you’re asking it. Knowing what goes into the products you bring into your home matters, and we believe in being transparent about exactly what we use (and what we don’t).
Our Wax: 100% Soy, Always
All of our candles are made with 100% soy wax. That means no paraffin, no fillers, and nothing added to cut corners. Soy wax is derived from soybeans (being an Iowa company, we pick up our wax that is made only a few hours from us), making it a cleaner-burning, renewable option that aligns with the kind of products we’re proud to create.
Why would someone opt out of using only 100% soy wax? Well, much of the candle industry is dominated by paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is a petroleum bi-product (derived from crude oil refining), and is less expensive than natural waxes, holds fragrance very strongly (think of those candles you can almost taste as it burns), and has a smooth consistent finish, unlike soy, which can have bumps and sinkholes (less appealing but doesn't affect the burn). Watch out for candles claiming to have a soy blend. This just means the candle has a little bit of soy blended with paraffin wax.
Our Fragrance Oils: Safe + Thoughtfully Sourced
Fragrance is where a candle really comes to life—but it’s also where quality matters most.
We use naturally derived fragrance oils that are carefully formulated to be:
- Phthalate-free
- Paraben-free
- Free of endocrine-disrupting chemicals
While “fragrance” can sometimes feel like a vague term, we prioritize sourcing oils that meet strict safety standards—so you can enjoy your candle without second-guessing what’s in it. And you can ask our customers; once you burn one of our candles, you don't go back!
Higher-quality fragrance oils are more expensive because they’re formulated to meet stricter safety standards. Choosing safer formulations often comes down to a brand’s priorities. We prioritize your (and our own!) health and well-being over being the most profitable company on the planet.
Our Wicks: 100% Cotton
Every candle is finished with a 100% cotton wick.
No metals, no additives—just a simple, clean-burning wick that complements the quality of the wax and fragrance. While lead wicks are banned in the U.S., many wicks are still made with a metal core (think zinc or tin), to help a wick stand straight up (that's why you see our wicks being hand straightened after we pour).
Why We Keep It Simple
You might not see a long ingredient list on our candles, and that’s intentional. We keep our formulas straightforward and consistent:
- Soy wax
- Clean fragrance oil
- Cotton wick
That’s it.
The Bottom Line
When you burn one of our candles, you can feel confident knowing it’s made with thoughtfully chosen materials—nothing unnecessary, nothing hidden.
If you ever have questions about our ingredients or process, we’re always happy to talk through it. Transparency matters to us just as much as it does to you.
